The
5th edition of the MaBEST is already in full swing on the Totsi site in Lomé.
The mayor of the Golfe 5 commune, Kossi Aboka, officially set the tone on
September 14, 2023. The event was attended by Dr Géraud Hellow, Country
Director of Vétérinaires Sans Frontières Suisse (VSF-Switzerland), and other
partners involved in health promotion. Four (04) days of intense activity
around the theme: « Health according to our knowledge and African
realities ».
Between
now and Sunday September 17, thousands of visitors are expected to attend the
Togo Wellness and Health Market. From children and young people to adults and
senior citizens, all social strata are invited to the MABEST site. MaBEST is a
celebration of the richness and diversity of local products, which are at the
heart of our eating habits. Visitors will benefit from free consultations and
screening for NCDs (diabetes, hypertension, etc.) and practical advice.
According
to the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Basile Mignaké, MaBEST is a
meeting place for sharing and discovering health practices and knowledge.
According to the Chairman of the Organizing Committee, Basile Mignaké, « MaBEST
is a meeting place for sharing and discovering health practices and
knowledge. This year's theme aims to highlight health practices and knowledge in
our communities in Togo and Africa.Indeed, Africa has many practices and
knowledge that are neglected and ignored today. This knowledge must not
disappear, it must be known and integrated into current health practice. It's
an unforgettable experience that awaits the whole population, full of
discoveries, sharing and convivial moments. We warmly invite you to join us and
make this event a collective success », he said.
According
to official figures, the health situation in Togo is alarming. The prevalence of
high blood pressure, the main risk factor for strokes and heart problems, is
30.5%, while that of diabetes is 6.2% among the working population aged 15 to
64.Cardiovascular disease accounts for 6% of all deaths recorded in healthcare
establishments. Faced with this reality, Santé Education is once again
committed to supporting the efforts of the Togolese authorities to reverse the
trend. The festive aspect of this event will not be forgotten. A varied
entertainment program will round off the atmosphere, guaranteeing entertainment
for all participants. The event promises not only to strengthen the social
fabric of the community, but also to support local entrepreneurs by showcasing
their products and know-how.
According
to Kossi Aboka, health is behavioral, environmental, nutritional and
educational. This is why we rely on awareness-raising campaigns to encourage
the adoption of good habits. « The development of our localities, of
our countries, rests on the shoulders of those who live. That's why, when we
talk about health, we have to consider this essential sector for our country »,
he stressed.
