Maintaining a healthy diet is essential for good
digestive function. Symptoms such as bloating, flatulence and acid reflux can
often be attributed to a poor diet. It's important to know which foods to avoid
or limit to keep your digestive system healthy.
Cold meats
Charcuterie, with its high fat and additive content,
can lead to excessive fermentation in the colon. This can exacerbate digestive
problems. For better digestion, we recommend choosing leaner options such as
chicken or turkey.
Milk chocolate
Milk chocolate contains lactose and fat, making it
more difficult to digest than dark chocolate. To avoid digestive problems, it
is advisable to choose dark chocolate with a high cocoa content, which is
generally better tolerated by the stomach.
Fibre-rich dried fruit
Dried fruit and oilseeds, although rich in nutrients,
can encourage intestinal fermentation because of their high fibre content. To
avoid digestive problems, it is advisable to limit their consumption and
control portions, especially if you have difficulty digesting meals.
Chewing gum
Chewing chewing gum can
induce gastric stimulation by tricking the stomach into expecting food. What's
more, some of the ingredients in chewing gum can have a laxative effect, which
can aggravate digestive problems. So it's best to avoid chewing gum, especially
if you have digestive sensitivities.
Pulses
Pulses such as beans and
soya are rich in fibre and complex carbohydrates. This can make them difficult
to digest for some people. To minimise the undesirable effects, we recommend
soaking them in plenty of water before cooking, to help reduce their content of
compounds responsible for flatulence.
Consult a health
professional in the event of persistent digestive problems for appropriate
advice.
