Many people say that drinking water with food is not a good idea, as it makes the stomach “swell” and disturbs digestion.

Is this true?

Drinking water before a meal fills the stomach and helps limit food intake.  It's an easy trick for people who want to lower their calorie intake. Drinking water with a meal speeds up emptying of the stomach, making digestion easier.  Drink still water in small sips. Not a glass emptied in one go, which also liquefies the food. To avoid bloating or reflux, avoid drinking very fizzy water or large quantities of water with a meal. If you're sensitive, drink a little still water before and after your meal. Do not drink sparkling water with alcoholic beverages.
