Breast
cancer is the most common cancer in women. Its occurrence is attributed to
various risk factors. However, it is possible to reduce the risk of breast
cancer by eating a certain diet. Kpônou Mathieu Tobossi, a specialist in
hygiene and food quality, lifts the veil on the food behaviors to adopt.
«Sugar,
fats and trans fatty acids in industrial foods increase the risk of breast
cancer. In contrast, a diet based on fruits, seasonal vegetables, vegetable
oil, fish, protects against the risks of breast cancer»,
says Kpônou Mathieu Tobossi, food hygiene and quality specialist.
Focus on fruits and vegetables
Eating
fruits and vegetables every day significantly reduces the risk of breast
cancer. This risk reduction is effective on aggressive tumors. Consuming
vegetables, vitamin C and foods rich in Beta-carotene can reduce the risk by
25%, 20% and 18% respectively. They contain anticancer phytochemicals,
substances that promote the elimination of toxins as well as many antioxidants
that limit the risk of premature aging of cells. To prevent breast cancer,
avoid consuming too much animal fat as it increases the risk of developing
breast cancer by 33%. Reduce to 20g/day fat intake.
Avoid or limit alcohol
Alcohol
consumption is directly responsible for many cancers. Alcohol is a risk factor
for breast cancer from the first drink. Over 2 glasses of alcohol per day, the
risk of cancer increases by 60%. Some cases of breast cancer are related to
excessive drinking. The risk of cancer recurrence in general is also increased
by alcohol.
Ensure
adequate vitamin D intake
It
is important to reasonably expose yourself (10 to 20 minutes per day) to the
sun to promote the production of vitamin D. Vitamin D is also in your plates
(cod liver, mackerel, sardine, veal liver...). It is also possible to
supplement with vitamin D orally. Ask your doctor for advice.
