Lettuce
is very rich in chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has a great antiseptic effect on the
body and helps to clean and nourish the bloodstream. It is also an excellent
sleep aid.
One of
the little-known properties of lettuce comes from one of its molecules that is
similar to opium. It contains lactucarium, a substance that is very effective
in cases of visceral or genital spasms, urinary incontinence, neuralgic pain,
heart palpitations, nervous coughs and excitement. This substance makes this
vegetable the best kept secret against nervousness and insomnia. Lettuce acts
as a natural sleeping aid.
Rich in
highly absorbable vitamins and minerals
Lettuce is very rich in water, at 95%, and absorbs
a large number of water-soluble vitamins and minerals from the soil, mainly
vitamins from the B group, especially folic acid, an important vitamin that
contributes to the formation of genetic material in the cells and to the
production of red blood cells. Folic acid is particularly useful for pregnant
women. Just 100 grams of lettuce will provide 75% of the minimum recommended
daily amount. Lettuce also contains vitamin C, potassium, iodine, copper, manganese,
zinc, iron and magnesium, beta-carotene and vitamin E.
Lettuce
is also the richest vegetable in organic silica. This mineral plays an
essential role in the assimilation and processing of calcium. Silica also plays
a role in protecting the cardiovascular system and osteoporosis. Lettuce is
very rich in cellulose and chlorophyll. Chlorophyll has a great antiseptic
effect on the body and helps to clean and nourish the bloodstream. Lettuce has
other properties, including increasing lactation in nursing mothers.
How to
benefit from its virtues
To
benefit from these virtues, lettuce can be eaten in large quantities in a salad
(for example, seasoned with cider vinegar), preferably during the evening meal.
But the best way to get all the medicinal virtues of lettuce, as a sedative, is
to make a decoction. For the contents of a cup of boiling water, use two
lettuce leaves, bring to the boil, boil for one minute and then infuse for ten
minutes. Wash well beforehand.
