Santé-Education
wants to make itself better known at the national, sub-regional and
international levels. This Togolese press organisation launched its website
www.sante-education.tg on Monday 22 May 2023 in Lomé. The meeting was attended
by representatives of the ministry in charge of health, development partners,
medical specialists and press regulatory organisations.
Africa
is facing major challenges in public health. Infectious diseases, nutritional
problems, limited access to quality health care and lack of accurate
information are all barriers to a healthy and fulfilling life. Public health,
prevention and health promotion are inextricably linked to information and
communication. Santé-Education aims to meet the needs of the population by
offering them quality health information. This is done through its web platform
www.sante-education.tg.
« Health-Education
is an online platform dedicated to the promotion of health and the
dissemination of accurate information accessible to all. Its main objective is
to provide educational resources, practical advice and quality information on
various aspects of health, in order to empower individuals and communities in
their health-related decision making », said the Director
General in his welcoming remarks.
The
website sante-education.tg focuses on several key health areas, such as disease
prevention, nutrition, hygiene, maternal and child health, mental health and
many others. Through informative articles, educational videos, infographics and
downloadable resources, the platform aims to raise awareness, educate and
encourage people to adopt healthy behaviours and take care of their well-being.
« On
this site, the user creates an account to take full advantage of the platform,
although the free multimedia content can be accessed without an account. With
an account, the user can take out a subscription or buy a single newspaper or
articles, videos and podcasts. It is a web application and is available in
English and French. We are looking into the possibility of making the podcasts
available in local languages », said Zabdiel Mignaké,
Digital Manager.
Benefits
of this site
This
official launch marks the beginning of a concerted effort to bridge the health
information gap in Togo and Africa by providing easy access to reliable and
up-to-date knowledge. The platform relies on media specialists and a college of
health experts, who collaborate to produce quality content and make it
available to all, regardless of their level of education or location. « The information and education of
the public on health matters is for us health professionals and specialists in
the field of medicines an obligation, and even more a duty. Today, with more
than 718 weekly publications, we can safely say that the promoters of this
press intended to promote health are playing their part alongside health
professionals », said the President of the National Order of
Pharmacists (ONPT), Dr Tufa Nyasenu.
For
Gadiel Tsonyadzi, Director of Development, this site offers health information
to African readers on prevention based on African realities and knowledge. The
particular choice to inform on the field of health gives Health-Education a
special mission: to help and bring all to be actors of their own health by
true, fair, credible, and objective information in the strict respect of ethics
and deontology.
The
representative of HAAC, Didier Atiota, for his part, welcomed this initiative
and encouraged Health-Education to work further on the path of professionalism
in Togo. By investing in health education, one invests in the future of
communities, building healthier, more balanced and more resilient societies.
