Heart attacks can be triggered by many factors. There are two categories of factors : the first is uncorrectable and beyond any individual's control, such as heredity, gender or age. The second category is closely linked to lifestyle, including diet. Here are some foods to reduce or avoid to preserve heart health.

The heart is one of the body's largest organs. It pumps and propels blood through the body.  By pumping, the lining of the heart, called the myocardium, manages blood circulation. To do this, the myocardium needs oxygen, and this is where the arteries come in. Their main role is to supply the myocardium with oxygen.

But when an artery becomes blocked or no longer performs its function properly, it deprives the heart's cells of oxygen, leading to their death and, consequently, problems with heart contraction, resulting in arrhythmia or heart failure, or even a heart attack. A poor diet can cause a heart attack.

Delicatessen

Sausages, bacon, ham and all so-called processed meats significantly increase (28%) the risk of heart attack. For heavy meat eaters, it's better to choose fresh meat rather than processed meats, which are rich in preservatives and salt.

Refined cereals

The husk of cereal grains is the main source of fiber. It's therefore wiser to eat whole grains. In fact, several studies have shown that regular consumption of whole grains reduces diabetes and naturally lowers the risk of heart attacks. However, cereals without this skin increase blood pressure and cholesterol levels.

Sugar-rich drinks

These include energy drinks and industrial juices. These drinks should be limited, even though the packaging clearly states that they contain little or no sugar. The calorie intake is too high, despite the fact that the drink offers no nutrients. This promotes weight gain and, in the long term, the risk of heart attacks.

Trans fatty acids

This type of fat is found in the fats used in baked goods. A process by which the food industry aims to solidify fats by modifying their molecular structure to make them more resistant to high temperatures and extend their shelf life. Limit consumption of these products as much as possible, as this type of fat increases the level of unhealthy fats.

Saturated fats

Mayonnaise and ice cream are the best examples of saturated fat sources. This type of fat can increase cholesterol in the blood, which over time causes coronary artery disease. In addition, reduce, or better still, avoid alcohol consumption.
