The quality of sleep plays an important role in the risk of developing hypertension: insomnia, a restless sleep, obstructive apnea syndrome, frequent night awakenings, all this can have a negative influence on blood pressure. In this context, night sleep problems or not, can the nap be of interest in case of diagnosed and treated hypertension, but not necessarily well controlled? According to a team of Greek researchers, taking a nap early in the afternoon can lower blood pressure in people with high blood pressure and may help prevent it from appearing in others. A short nap of about 20 minutes, some time after lunch, reduces the cardiovascular risk by 10%. In other words, hypertensive patients should not hesitate to take a nap. We know that napping is beneficial for other brain functions such as memory. If one does not have hypertension, this short period of sleep may allow, it remains to be accurately assessed, to reduce the risks.
