You don't have to become a « cleanliness maniac », but you can improve or pay closer attention to certain places and objects in the home. In the home, there are certain places and objects that are the most likely to transmit germs and bacteria of all kinds.

Toilet seats

Over 500 species of micro-organisms are found in excrement. From the toilet seat to the mouth via the hands, certain microbes and bacteria can make you ill. If you use a modern toilet, clean the bowl regularly. Wash your hands after each use of the toilet.

Door handles

When cleaning, remember to clean door handles throughout the house, including those on fridges, drawers and cupboards.  If you live in a house with several tenants, the door handle is a real source of germ transmission. Be sure to wash your hands after passing through the gate.

Handbags and shopping bags

Handbags and shopping bags are also entitled to a good internal and external cleaning, especially leather bags, as their texture is more conducive to microbial growth.Handbags are not garbage cans. Don't put used tissues in it, or the remains of a loaf of bread, cake or croissant that you've started but not finished. This prepares the bag to become a nest of bacteria.

Shower/dish sponges

Never leave a sponge soaked in water.Rinse it several times before wringing it out well, so that it dries as quickly as possible between uses. After each dishwashing, remove all food detritus from the sponge. Remove as much food debris as possible from the sponge and set it aside to dry properly. Rinse the sponge thoroughly with hot water every other day. Change sponges regularly. A sponge for every purpose.

The work surface

Disinfect after each meal preparation and during preparation, and systematically clean the work surface between each food item, for example to avoid contaminating meat with germs from vegetables. The chopping board is even less hygienic because of the scratches on the bottom, where bacteria can thrive in peace and quiet.

Change the board when the scratches are marked, polish your wooden board and immerse it in boiling water from time to time, or wash it with bleach.

Shoes

The soles of shoes bring everything into the house, including lots of faecal bacteria, without you even realizing it. Always take off your shoes when you come home.Wash and disinfect socks thoroughly. For regular maintenance, clean and dust with a soft, slightly damp cloth if they're really dirty.

The cell phone

Constantly being touched and passed from hand to hand, after having been on every table, in every pocket and purse, the telephone is a mobile object that harbors many germs.Remember to clean your phone regularly. Do the same with the handset and keypad of landline telephones, at home and at work. But the cell phones most at risk are those used for "credit recharging" in the streets and other stores. Everyone is called upon to enter their number by pressing the keypad. This is how germs circulate. The people most at risk are the men and women who serve.

The computer keyboard and mouseKeyboards and mice are other objects we don't think about: in constant contact with our hands, they quickly become coated with a layer of bacteria. Imagine the effect in cybercafés.Clean regularly, especially if the equipment is shared or sometimes used by a relative.Don't eat above the keyboard.

Toothbrushes

Toothbrushes provide a warm, moist environment ideal for bacterial growth. Change it regularly.  After use, shake the brush to remove water droplets and leave it to dry, ideally upside down in a clean but well-ventilated place, avoiding it touching another toothbrush.

The refrigerator

Separate raw and cooked foods, and meat from vegetables.Wrap all food systematically.Once a week, clean the inside with a little bleach and deglaze as needed.
