The
Minister for Universal Access to Healthcare, Jean-Marie Koffi Ewonoulé TESSI,
visited the headquarters of the National Health Insurance Institute (INAM) on
Thursday 09 November 2023. The visit was
part of a round of contacts with the departments and bodies reporting to his
ministry. Through this visit, the Minister for Universal Access to Healthcare
wanted to meet the staff of the INAM to find out about their working conditions
and, above all, to offer them his encouragement.
During
the visit, Minister Jean-Marie Koffi Ewonoulé Tessi discussed with the Director
General of INAM, Myriam Dossou-d'Almeida and her close collaborators the
actions underway to make Universal Health Insurance (UHI) operational. He congratulated the staff on the work they
had accomplished since the creation of INAM, and called on them to do more to
meet the new challenges of Universal Health Insurance.
The
Director General of INAM, Mrs Myriam Dossou-d'Almeida, was honoured by the
visit of the Minister, who had come to encourage and motivate her teams. She
expressed the readiness of her staff to work under her leadership to achieve
the objectives set by the government in implementing universal health cover.
In
his message to INAM staff, the Minister for Universal Access to Healthcare
emphasised the special place given to universal health insurance by the Head of
State in his social development policy. He reassured INAM staff of his
willingness to support them in providing a quality service to the beneficiaries
of health insurance.Minister Jean-Marie Koffi Ewonoulé Tessi then invited INAM
staff to do their utmost to ensure that the AMU becomes effective on 1 January
2024, as set out in the government's agenda.After the INAM headquarters, the
visit continued to INAM departments, namely the Lomé commune delegation, the
insurance card production unit and the Invoice Processing Centre.
The
Togolese government's ambitious universal health insurance project aims to
provide better health cover for all sections of the population.The AMU will be
managed by the INAM and the National Social Security Fund (CNSS).
