When we have toothache, we often think of a cavity. However, there are some people who suffer from strong sensitivity to hot and cold, without this being attributable to a cavity. The cause? Dentine hypersensitivity. The pulp of the tooth (the living part, with numerous nerve endings) is covered by dentin, which is itself covered by enamel on top and protected laterally by the gum. Sometimes, however, the gum becomes detached and no longer plays its protective role. The same applies to the enamel when it comes off. This exposes the dentin, the main substance making up the tooth, as well as the many nerve connections. The result is exacerbated sensitivity and toothache when cold or hot, sugars or acids are absorbed.  To regain good dental health, you should consult your dentist.
