Flu
is a viral illness that can cause fever, chills, sore throat and intense
fatigue. Fortunately, certain herbal teas with anti-inflammatory and
immune-boosting properties can help reduce symptoms and promote recovery. Here
are some effective flu teas.
Infusion
with ginger and lemon
Ginger
and lemon tea contains gingerol, vitamin C and zingerone, compounds with
anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial and antioxidant action, which help relieve flu
symptoms such as throat irritation and coughing.
Recipe:
Take 2 roots of fresh ginger powder or 1 tablespoon of ginger powder, the juice
of one (01) lemon and 0.5 litres of water. Add the ginger to the water and boil
for 10 to 15 minutes. Leave to cool, filter and add the lemon juice. Drink 3
cups a day. This infusion is not suitable for children under 6, people taking
anticoagulants or suffering from gallstones or haemorrhagic diseases.
Garlic
and lemon tea
Garlic
contains allicin, alliin and ailene, which have antimicrobial and
anti-inflammatory properties, boosting the immune system.
Recipe:
1 clove of garlic, 0.5 l of water and the juice of one (01) lemon. Bring the
water to the boil.Add the crushed or chopped garlic and leave to infuse for 5
to 10 minutes.Filter, add the lemon and drink. This herbal tea is not
recommended for pregnant and breast-feeding women, children under 2 years of
age, or anyone suffering from gastritis, ulcers, low blood pressure or
haemorrhage.
Infusion
of orange peel, cinnamon and honey
Orange
peel is rich in vitamin C and flavonoids, helping to boost the immune system
and fight the flu.
Recipe:
Take fresh or dried peel from 2 oranges, 0.5 l boiling water, 1 small piece of
cinnamon stick or 1 teaspoon cinnamon powder, 1 teaspoon honey. Wash and remove
the orange peel, add the peel and cinnamon to the boiling water.Cover and leave
to infuse for 5 to 10 minutes. Remove the peel, add the honey and drink. This infusion should be avoided by people
suffering from gastric or intestinal ulcers.
