On Tuesday, September 2, 2025, Santé-Éducation launched the 7th edition of the Food, Well-being, and Health Market in Togo (MaBEST) at the Totsi market. The event, themed “Prevention is cure,” will be held from November 4 to 9, 2025, in Lomé. The goal is to raise awareness about noncommunicable diseases and promote prevention and healthier lifestyles within communities.
For this 7th edition, the program is ambitious. It aims to reach at least 20,000 people and 10,000 people on social media. The planned activities target three main communities, including women market vendors (Totsi, Adidogomé Assiyéyé, and Hanoukopé); motorcycle taxi drivers; and young people and students at Zanguéra High School.
Screening
sessions, free consultations, and sports activities are also planned. In
addition, a public conference will bring together experts in public health and
alternative medicine to discuss key topics: preparing balanced meals using
local products, the relationship between diet and physical activity for
maintaining a healthy weight, the prevention of non-communicable diseases, and
the role of dietary supplements in the Togolese healthcare system.
MaBEST 2025 also plans to host a symposium for practitioners of alternative medicine, a day of reflection on the role of the media in promoting health, and an exhibition and tasting event dedicated to therapeutic herbal teas. For the president of the organizing committee, Basile Mignaké, « our goal is to raise public awareness of health issues. Too often, people only realize the importance of health after they fall ill. This is a major risk. »
The
president of the Totsi market, Gnake A. Happy, welcomed the initiative. « Today,
Mabest has made us aware of several simple habits we can adopt for our own
health. We understand that we need to move, take steps, and avoid staying in
one place all day. »
MaBEST
already has a solid track record. Over the course of the previous six editions,
the event has welcomed 162,100 visitors and conducted 6,229 consultations
(diabetes, hypertension, and weight).
