The Association "Eagle
Africa", in collaboration with the Alliance for the Promotion of
Reproductive Health and the Prevention of Non-communicable Diseases in Africa
organized on Saturday, November 8 in Lomé, a sports session marking the launch
of the 2nd edition of the campaign «Novembre Bleu», dedicated to the screening
and treatment of prostate cancer in Togo. This edition is placed under the
theme "Against prostate diseases, let’s act quickly and together".
The spo rting
activity has made it possible to mobilize the population of the city of Lomé,
in particular that of the municipality of Golfe 3, for more impact in favor of
male health. The sporting activity has mobilized several groups of physical
activities such as cheetahs, Sport Énergie Plus, Espoir Club, the Leopards, the
Friends of th e Beach, the members of the
Eagle Africa Association, the Togolese federation of sport for all (Agoè Nord
district) and mass sports (North Agoè district).
These different mass sports groups, made up
of men, women, and young people, started from the UTB Tokoin-Trésor round point
by passing through the cobblestones of Adéwui, the Baptist Church of
Doumasséssé, the boulevard of Kara, the cobblestones Gbonssimé, the management
of the Togolese water company (TdE), the round point Gbadago, the market of
Ahanoukopé where the athletes made a stop to raise awareness among passersby
against prostatitis cancer.
They resumed the journey passing through the
cobblestones of Ahanoukopé, the Shell Station, Togo, the Bomako Bakery, the round
point Ramco, to fall at the starting point (The Eagle Africa clinic). This
sports activity was followed by a screening and ultrasound analysis session at
the Eagle Africa clinic.
The representative of the Ministry of
Health, Professor Bélo Mofou, stressed that prevention and awareness remain the
most effective weapons against this disease. “To inform is to protect.
Encouraging testing saves lives," he said, calling for a collective
mobilization of health professionals, the media and local communities.
For their part, the president of Eagle
Africa, Dr Apétsianyi Elie Agbobli, and the executive director Dr Ahadji Kossi
recalled that the prostate is a normal organ in men, while prostatitis is a
condition requiring medical monitoring. They encouraged men to adopt a healthy
lifestyle, regular sports practice, reducing sugar and fatty meats, avoiding
tobacco and alcohol, in order to prevent prostatic inflammations.
According to health authorities, the fight
against non-communicable diseases, including prostate cancer, is increasingly
part of Togo’s public policies. This campaign is part of a national effort to
strengthen screening, health education and access to care, supported by the
country’s technical and financial partners.
Togo has launched a national plan to fight
cancer 2022-2025, with a budget of 4 billion FCFA for research, prevention, and
therapeutic management. The Dogta-Lafiè hospital in Lomé has also recently
adopted a cutting-edge technology, the Focal One high-intensity focused
ultrasound system, for the treatment of prostate cancer, making Togo the first African
country to have this less invasive solution.
This "November Blue"
campaign, supported by the Prostate Champion’s Center, aligns with the global
dynamic of male cancer prevention, initiated in several African countries to
promote men’s health and well-being.
