The human body is a complex machine that works tirelessly, 24 hours a day. However, it requires regular maintenance to continue operating optimally. If you ask yourself, ‘Am I healthy? Do I have a disease?’, you should know that worrying can be detrimental to your well-being. A health check-up, or medical examination, is the ideal tool for dispelling doubts and ensuring good health.

A health check-up is a preventive, periodic medical examination. It is designed to assess overall health, detect silent pathologies, or monitor a chronic illness. As Dr Nasser Badabaké, an internist at the Lomé University Hospital Campus, points out, « health checks help to avoid emergency situations by identifying health problems at an early stage. »

This check-up may include various tests, such as blood tests to check blood sugar, cholesterol or other biological parameters, urine tests to detect kidney or metabolic abnormalities, cardiac tests to assess heart health, and eye tests to monitor vision and detect conditions related to age or chronic diseases.

Accessible to all and adaptable

Everyone can afford a health check-up, as it can be tailored to each individual's needs and means. According to Dr Badabaké, « health check-ups vary according to each individual's age, gender, medical history and lifestyle. They can be carried out every six months, once a year or once every two years, depending on your budget. »

The cost of health check-ups ranges from 40,000 to 120,000 CFA francs, depending on the tests required. Even a partial check-up can provide valuable information for maintaining good health.

Daily monitoring for optimal health

In addition to periodic check-ups, daily monitoring of certain parameters is recommended, such as blood sugar to monitor the risk of diabetes and blood pressure to prevent cardiovascular disease.

These measurements can be taken daily or, at worst, weekly to ensure that everything is fine.

Why have a health check-up?

A health check-up, whether partial or complete, allows for the early detection of silent diseases and the monitoring of chronic conditions. The check-up also allows you to adapt your lifestyle based on the results and reduce the risk of complications and costs associated with medical emergencies.

Investing in your health is a priority

Taking care of your health is not a luxury, but a necessity. By making regular check-ups part of your routine, you are giving yourself the means to live life to the fullest and in better shape. Don't wait for the first symptoms to appear before taking action: make an appointment for a health check-up today.
