The
prostate is a gland that forms part of the male reproductive system, located
under the bladder, in front of the rectum. Its role is to produce prostatic
fluid, rich in enzymes, proteins and minerals that help protect and nourish
spermatozoa. Certain symptoms, such as burning, pain, leakage and difficulty in
achieving an erection, may suggest a prostate problem for which you should seek
medical advice.
From
the age of 45-50, it is advisable to have your prostate checked and to consult
a specialist if you notice any abnormal signs.
Slow,
jerky stream of urine
A
frequent need to urinate, known medically as pollakiuria, especially at night,
can reveal a problem with the prostate. Prostate adenoma or benign prostatic
hypertrophy, a benign tumor that corresponds to the enlargement of the prostate
gland, can have an impact on urinary function. This can lead to urinary
problems and discomfort, such as frequent urination with small quantities of
urine each time, a weak urine stream or the need to « push » to
urinate. The sensation is that the bladder has not been completely emptied.
Erectile
problems
Erectile
problems can sometimes be associated with prostate adenoma. But this is far
from systematic. As soon as the prostate is mentioned, patients start to fear
that treatment may affect their sexuality, and therefore their ability to have
erections and a fulfilling sexuality.
Urinary
incontinence
Urinary
incontinence or leakage may be due to an adenoma of the prostate. An enlarging
prostate can put pressure on the urethra, leading to leakage. However, if a
patient does experience urinary problems, it's highly unlikely to be related to
cancer. In most cases, prostate cancer
is a slow-growing tumor that causes no symptoms.
Burning
when urinating
A
burning sensation in the lower abdomen or when urinating can be a sign of
prostatitis. This is a painful inflammation of the prostate gland. Talk to your
doctor immediately.
Pelvic
pain
Pain
in the pelvic area, between the scrotum and the anus, or in the lumbar region,
penis or testicles, may be indicative of prostatitis. This pain may be
characterized by painful urination, discomfort in the genital area or a feeling
of pressure in the rectum.
Blood-tinged
urine
Bloody
urine, or hematuria, can be a sign of prostatitis or prostate adenoma. While
there's no need to be alarmed in most cases, bloody urine, whether occasional
or repeated, is not harmless. Consult your doctor.
Recipe
Infusion
with ginger and dandelion: 1 spoonful of grated ginger root, 1 spoonful of « Agnoto »
dandelion, 2 glasses of water (500 ml). Place ginger and dandelion in a
saucepan of water. Bring the drink to the boil over low heat for 5 minutes. Put
a lid on the pan and leave to stand until lukewarm. Drink one cup on an empty
stomach, then another mid-afternoon. Repeat the process for 15 days in a row,
stopping for 15 days, then starting again.
WARNING:
If you notice any of the above signs, go immediately to a health care center
for proper consultation and management.
