Rebalancing one's diet
involves integrating new eating habits to achieve balanced daily eating in the
long term. It's not about starting a typical diet where certain foods are
completely banned, but rather about eating everything in the right quantities when
the body needs it. Rebalancing your diet means adopting a healthy lifestyle by
reconsidering your eating habits.
This lifestyle primarily
relies on the willingness to eat balanced meals. "A balanced diet includes all 3 food groups: building, energy, and
protective. Eating a variety means not consuming the same things at every meal.
For example, if you have pasta for lunch with spinach, in the evening you might
change to fufu with a vegetable sauce or rice according to your preferences,"
explains Dr. Bouraïma Mouawiyatou, Nutrition Division Chief at the Ministry of
Health.
To avoid getting
discouraged, try to change one eating habit at a time. Give yourself time to
see the effects. Also, make sure to have three proper meals. The goal is not to
deprive oneself or wage war against food. Instead, it's about discovering a new
dietary balance that will promote both a healthy weight and overall well-being.
For maximum effectiveness, dietary rebalancing should be combined with regular
and moderate physical activity. Finally, drink a sufficient amount of water
every day.
"Eat breakfast preferably at the same time every morning. Firstly,
eating balanced meals isn't accessible to everyone. It requires resources and
knowledge in the field. Your diet also depends on your blood type. Rule number
1, drink water in the morning; rule number 2, eat fruits between 6 am and 10 am
so they become like medicine in our bodies. But be cautious with organic fruits
like pineapple without chemicals and living foods such as yam. Eat heavy meals
if possible at noon. Light meals if possible in the evening,"
recommends Lambert Buffalo, Nutritionist and Naturopath.
Foods
to Prioritize
Prioritize natural foods,
unpackaged foods that have undergone no industrial processing. Differentiate
between carbohydrates and fats. Consume oily fish like salmon or nuts such as
dates about twice a week. Likewise, the body needs the fuel provided by
carbohydrates. However, avoid fast sugars and white sugar.
Opt for fruits, vegetables,
whole grains, and all protein-rich foods like lean meat, eggs, and legumes.
Consume in small portions: cream yogurts, smoked fish, semi-skimmed butter,
orange juice, and cottage cheese.
