Lomé hosted the 4th
Congress of the Society of Gynecologists-Obstetricians of Togo (SGOT) on
September 12 and 13, 2024. The meeting brought together experts in obstetric
gynecology under the theme: "The Use of Technology in the Field of
Health." The event was inaugurated by the Secretary General of the
Ministry of Health and Public Hygiene, Dr. Kokou Wotobe. This congress is part
of an effort to modernize healthcare and strengthen the capacities of health
professionals. It was also coupled with a ceremony honoring pioneers in
obstetric gynecology.
Participants at the 4th
SGOT congress had the opportunity to explore essential sub-themes such as the
integration of technology into gynecological services, challenges related to
gynecological and breast cancers, sexual violence, and the complexity of
endoscopy in gynecology. These critical topics highlight the importance of
modernizing care in this sector. According to SGOT President, Dr. M'Bortche
Bingo, “It is essential to celebrate best
practices, challenges in our mission, and share daily research advancements to
better address the pathologies inherent to our field and thus contribute to the
well-being of Women, Mothers, and Children. Integrating technology into our
noble mission and sharing research advancements is essential to better care for
the pathologies we deal with, which ultimately contributes to the well-being of
Women, Mothers, and Children."
The use of technology in
the medical field is now an undeniable priority, particularly regarding
gynecological and obstetric care. The ability to diagnose faster, treat more
precisely, and improve access to care for women and newborns was central to the
discussions. The Secretary General of the Ministry of Health and Public
Hygiene, Dr. Kokou Wotobe, rightly pointed out that this theme is particularly
relevant as "it reflects the
constant evolution of medical practices, while ensuring more efficient care for
the most vulnerable populations. Technological advancements, combined with the accumulated
experience of health professionals, open new perspectives in the fight against
gynecological cancers, the management of sexual violence, and the improvement
of diagnostic and treatment techniques,” he said.
For Dr. Sepou Abdoulaye,
President of the African Society of Gynecologists-Obstetricians, "this congress also highlighted the
importance of sharing experiences and best practices among African
gynecologists and obstetricians to improve the quality of care provided to the
delicate pair of mother and newborn."
Honorary Awards
This 4th congress also
provided an opportunity to honor the pioneers of obstetric gynecology. A total
of ten (10) doctors were awarded a trophy and a certificate of honor. These
physicians, the first to engage in this complex field, have made history
through their dedication and contributions. Their hard work has laid a solid
foundation for modern practice, improving the care provided to women and
advancing scientific research in reproductive health. Through this tribute, the
congress recognized the importance of their legacy and encouraged the new
generations to continue this path of medical excellence.
