Whether it's sleep apnoea or insomnia, poor sleep is very annoying because it's not restorative. To age well, it's important to pay attention to your internal clock. Here are some of the causes of poor sleep.

Anxiety

Anxiety and stress are particularly harmful to sleep. Insomnia can be characterised by waking up during the night, difficulty falling asleep and waking up early in the morning. People who are over-anxious are unable to relax sufficiently at bedtime, and are therefore slow to fall asleep. They tend to dwell on their problems and worries. This can also lead to nightmares, which are not conducive to restful sleep.

Poor lifestyle

Certain foods and substances should not be consumed to obtain good quality sleep. Alcohol, cigarettes, coffee and sugar are all excitants that don't help you to calm down and get a good night's sleep. These products should therefore be avoided as much as possible, especially in the evening before bedtime. On the other hand, certain herbal teas, such as camomile, can help you sleep better.

Pathologies

Certain pathologies can be the cause of poor sleep. Respiratory problems such as asthma and sleep apnoea can be a major obstacle to good sleep. Similarly, other pathologies such as depression or allergies can cause difficulties in sleep quality.
