Anxiety: what is the relationship with diet?

Is diet a protective or aggravating factor in anxiety disorders? Researchers at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (Canada) have shown that certain people are at greater risk of anxiety: women, single people, people on low incomes, patients suffering from pain or chronic illness, smokers and obese people. There is also a link with diet, since eating fewer than three portions of fruit and vegetables a day is associated with a higher likelihood of anxiety. This is also the case for those who eat more biscuits, crisps and pastries per day. People with anxiety tendencies may be more attracted by sweets and less by fruit and vegetables.
