Whether in herbal tea, juice, or essential oil form, lemon is a fruit rich in minerals that can be used in a variety of ways. Its popularity has propelled it to become the central element of a weight loss diet called the “lemon detox diet.”
Inspired
by the recommendations of American naturopath Stanley Burroughs in the 1970s,
this cleanse combines regular consumption of lemon juice with a balanced
diet. This small citrus fruit is one of
the richest sources of vitamin C, containing more than 29 mg per 100 mg. This
vitamin contributes to the proper functioning of the immune system and reduces
fatigue. It is therefore a significant source of vitality, especially in the
middle of winter.
How
does the lemon detox work?
This
slimming diet falls into the category of low-calorie diets. The aim is to
reduce the number of calories consumed by the body, while drinking lemon juice
at regular intervals. Following this diet involves incorporating lemon juice
into meals, as a condiment in salads, porridge, tea, and drinking water; drink
before or after meals. This means cutting out red meat, cream, and fried foods.
These foods provide the body with “bad fats” and promote weight gain. During
this detox, your diet will consist exclusively of foods rich in “good fats,”
such as avocados, eggs, and fish, and whole foods, such as rice and legumes.
This
diet goes perfectly with exercise, as long as your diet remains balanced and
does not cause any deficiencies. The World Health Organization recommends at
least 150 to 300 minutes of moderate-intensity aerobic physical activity per
week, or at least half an hour per day. For more intense activity, this time
should be halved. Specialists recommend following a lemon diet for 15 to 21
days. Of course, this method may work differently for different people. The
ideal approach is to listen to your body.
