The 28th Chinese medical team on a mission in Lomé, capital
of Togo, recently organized two high-level academic conferences at the
University of Lomé, offering students from the Confucius Institute and the
Faculty of Medicine a living immersion in the knowledge-do and the humanism of
Chinese medicine.
The director of the
medical team, Guo Juanjuan, opened the session with a presentation on
cardiopulmonary resuscitation. Based on local needs for emergency relief, she
explained the essential principles of this "superpower of hands",
before guiding the students step-by-step through the practice including
gestures, depth and rhythm of chest compressions. «I would never have imagined
that two hands could save a life!» , exclaimed Onyeji Confort, a student at the
Confucius Institute, excited by this experience which, she believes, could one
day allow her to help those around her.
The
second intervention, presented by Chang Luchun, focused on "traditional
Chinese medicine: the art of body harmonization". He introduced the
fundamental concepts of "harmony between man and nature" and
"differentiated treatment according to diagnosis", before presenting
the development and unique assets of traditional Chinese medicine. Mr. Chang
demonstrated cupping and physiotherapy techniques, explaining the choice of acupuncture
points and therapeutic indications. Several teachers and students actively
participated in the experiment, discovering the effects of energy rebalancing
through meridians.
The
medical team also showed simple gestures of manual therapy to relieve neck,
lumbar and joint pain, illustrating the holistic philosophy of traditional
medicine combining body and mind.
The
two conferences were greeted by the entire audience. For Professor Aboudou
Maman Tachiwou, who is the Togolese co-director of the Confucius Institute at
the University of Lomé, this academic activity brings useful medical skills to
students. "The Chinese medical mission has fully demonstrated its
professionalism and sense of humanity, injecting new vitality into health
cooperation between the two countries," he said.
"This
series of conferences at the University of Lomé constitutes a new concrete
action of our mission of medical aid abroad and rapprochement between
peoples," said the director of the medical team, affirming that his team
would continue its efforts to share in various forms the medical resources and
quality techniques of China.
