In postmenopausal women, the risk of breast cancer is
higher if they are obese, compared to a woman with a normal body mass index.
Excess body fat increases the risk of hyperinsulinaemia, too much insulin in
the blood, overproduction of the hormone estradiol, produced by the ovaries,
and inflammation. Physical activity is
another way to improve your lifestyle. Reducing or avoiding alcohol consumption
is also important. Health professionals should help women to adopt a healthier
lifestyle. This will reduce their risk of breast cancer. In Togo, statistics
from the hospital register show that 27.1% of women have breast cancer.
