The last stage of the Forum of
Agricultural Producers of Togo (FoPAT) took place from 17 to 20 April 2023 in
Kara. As in Dapaong, Tsévié, Atakpamé and the Central, participants had the
opportunity to take the floor for a direct dialogue with the Head of State,
Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé. It was an opportunity for the agricultural actors
of the region to exchange on the challenges and prospects of the sector. During
his tour, the Head of State visited stands displaying technical innovations in
agricultural and agri-food products. He also handed over to the actors of the
agricultural world material and equipment for the improvement of their working
conditions. The FoPAT, a presidential initiative, is placed under the national
theme « Structural transformation of Togolese agriculture: challenges and
prospects ».
After the Savannah, the Maritime, the
Plateaux and the Central regions, the Forum of Agricultural Producers of Togo
(FoPAT) began its last stage in the Kara Region.
For FoPAT, Faure Gnassingbé has the
ambition to achieve his vision for the agricultural sector: « a productive
agriculture, with high added value, engine of growth and wealth creation for
farmers », as defined in the government's Roadmap Togo 2025. This is why,
during the FoPAT in the Maritime and other regions, he reaffirmed his
commitment to further support agricultural producers for a balanced choice of
agricultural sectors, the development of off-season crops, mechanisation and
water control, support infrastructures and access to financing in order to
strengthen food and nutritional security in all the country's economic regions.
In Kara, the authorities and producers
reviewed the progress of the agricultural sector as well as the difficulties
faced by the actors in their activities. The authorities presented to the
farmers their vision for the structural transformation of agriculture in the
country. The initiative also enabled the state of play to be established and
the producers to be informed of the government's strategy for making
agriculture a growth sector.
The actors were equipped on several
instruments and mechanisms related to the agricultural sector in Togo and on
the realities and specificities of the Kara region. Issues related to the
government's roadmap Togo 2025, mechanisation of agriculture in Togo, planned
agricultural development areas and agricultural irrigation were discussed.
Exchanges on the subject of inputs will also be addressed. The 2022-2023
agricultural season will also be discussed.
