According to the journal « Sleep », adults suffering from insomnia run a higher risk of memory problems, depression, daytime sleepiness, sleep apnoea and long-term cognitive impairment. Diagnosis is based on specific symptoms, such as difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, or waking up early at least three nights a week over a three-month period. Consult a doctor.
