A study published in 2008 by the Department of Pharmacology, LM College of Pharmacy, Ahmedabad, India, found that the alcoholic extract of moringa has anti-asthmatic activity, certainly due to the bronchodilator, antispasmodic, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects of the tree.

Another published by Guru Ghasidas University, India, in 2013 in the journal « BioMed Central Complementary & Alternative Medicine » found that the alcoholic extract of moringa bark has anti-ulcer, antisecretory, gastric and pulmonary protective effects. Moringa has been shown to improve overall lung health. The properties contained in the plant may reduce the severity of asthma attacks and help prevent bronchial constriction.

A toxicity study conducted by the University of Ibadan, Nigeria, published in the « Journal of Complementary & Integrative Medicine » in May 2013, concluded that the use of moringa medicinal and nutritional plants is relevant to the treatment of respiratory diseases including asthma.

What is asthma?

Asthma is a respiratory disease that occurs in attacks during which the bronchial tubes have their openings narrowed. This causes difficult breathing with a characteristic wheezing, tightness and a dry cough. The cause of this narrowing is due to an inflammatory reaction and a contraction of the muscles in the bronchial wall. The asthma attack can be dangerous and requires rapid bronchodilators. However, chronic treatment of asthma can be carried out with herbal medicine. Medical advice is essential.
