From
September 18 to 23, 2023, the world celebrates World Reflexology Week. This
ancient practice offers a multitude of physical and mental health benefits. In
Togo, to mark the event, the Association des Praticiens de la Réflexologie du
Togo (APRT) has brought this non-medicinal practice to the attention of the
general public, enabling everyone to play an active role in their own
well-being. The APRT's aim is to work alongside conventional medicine to find a
solution to the population's health problems. The press conference was held on
Thursday September 14 at the site of the 5th edition of MaBEST.
To
mark World Reflexology Week, the Association des Praticiens de la Réflexologie
du Togo (APRT) (Association of Reflexology Practitioners of Togo) is planning
awareness-raising activities to popularize the practice. APRT will also be
holding foot reflexology sessions on the site of the 5th edition of the Marché
du Bien-Etre et de la Santé (MaBEST) from September 13 to 17. Awareness-raising
and reflexology sessions are also planned in certain parishes. The Saint Jean
Baptiste parish in Yokoè will be in the spotlight on September 21.APRT will
also be hosting a conference on the theme of « Reflexology for all ages ».
From reducing stress to improving circulation, relieving pain and boosting
immunity, reflexology offers a holistic approach to improving quality of life.
« These
days, we're seeing more and more people turning to natural health methods. One
of these practices is reflexology. This little-known practice is full of
benefits. That's one of the reasons why we're spreading the word. We intend to
multiply these actions, which will enable the population to learn more about
reflexology and its benefits for human health »,
emphasized Line Odoh, President of APRT.
Understanding
reflexology
Reflexology
is defined as the treatment of organs using their reflex points. It is achieved
by simply pressing the fingers on a particular point to reach the corresponding
organ. Anyone can benefit from
reflexology, from newborn babies to pregnant women and the elderly.Everyone can
benefit from reflexology.
It's
a gentle, non-invasive, complementary practice used for prevention and as an
adjunct to conventional medicine. Reflexology is not a substitute for medical
treatment or follow-up.A growing body of research in recent years has
characterized the effects of reflexology on the body.
It's
based on the following principle: the foot is a miniaturized representation of
the human body, with each reflex zone corresponding to a specific organ, gland
or body part. Rhythmic pressure applied to these reflex zones helps to localize
tension and restore balance in the corresponding parts of the body.Other forms
of reflexology include facial (face) and palmar (hand) reflexology.
Widely
practiced in Europe and Asia, reflexology is particularly effective in treating
pain and many functional disorders.More than just a form of well-being,
reflexology contributes to a person's overall wellbeing. « Reflexology
can be used to treat a wide range of conditions, including back, hip and head
pain, diabetes, high blood pressure and infertility. It revitalizes and
detoxifies the body, relieves pain and stress, improves circulation and
harmonizes vital functions.Reflexology relaxes the mind and allows negative
emotions to flow away », explains Line Odoh, President of APRT. Reflexology
also enables the body to regain its balance and create the conditions for
self-healing.
Appeal
to the public and the authorities
APRT
officials are calling on the public to opt for reflexology to prevent all
ailments. They invite everyone at MaBEST from September 13 to 17, to come and
benefit from reflexology sessions, so as to fully understand this technique,
which is enormously beneficial to the body. As for the authorities in charge of
health, the president of ARPT says that reflexologists are ready to explain the
benefits of this technique to them, since reflexology has so much to contribute
to health.
