Unknown
and rare, penile cancer affects 1% of men worldwide. Penile cancer is caused by
the human papillomavirus (HPV), the appearance of which is favored by poor
hygiene of the male genitalia. To avoid it, urologists recommend prevention.
This includes circumcision, which removes waste and other debris that could
promote the growth of microbes. Treatments exist and can improve the daily
lives of patients when their condition is not complicated.
Penile
cancer, this tumor can take several forms. It can manifest as a skin rash on
the glans of the penis. It can also appear as a mass that forms and resembles
an ulcer, on the skin of the penis or the glans. In general, any mass found on
the penis should be examined.
How to Avoid Penile Cancer?
To
avoid it, one must know the risk factors. The first of these is infection with
the human papillomavirus (HPV). This virus can cause cervical cancer in women
and penile cancer in men.
Another
significant risk factor is hygiene. It is recognized that patients with poor
sexual hygiene, meaning multiple sexual partners, are at risk of penile cancer.
But especially those patients who not only have unprotected sex but also poor
hygiene. Meaning, they do not know how to clean themselves before and after
sexual intercourse. This should be an automatic gesture.
Prevention
also involves circumcision. Because it is known that when the foreskin is
retained, it harbors all kinds of waste and dirt, including the papillomavirus.
It is also necessary to reduce the number of sexual partners.
Are There Treatments for Penile Cancer?
Yes.
Several solutions exist to cure this cancer. One can undergo surgical excision,
simply removing the mass. But it can also involve more extensive surgery, a
penectomy. In other words, the removal of the penis for medical reasons. In
addition to surgery, treatment can also involve chemotherapy.
The
treatment of penile cancer is always somewhat burdensome. Because even by
simply removing the tumor, there is still a significant aesthetic impact.
Therefore, prevention is crucial in the face of this disease.
