Victorien Kayana Bikela, one of Togo's national team doctors and a member of
CAF's medical committee, has taken a major step forward by obtaining the
prestigious FIFA certificate in advanced emergency medicine. This recognition
propels him into the select circle of specialists authorised to officiate at
international competitions.
Elite training for football doctors
The
FIFA training course, held from 10 to 14 March 2025 at the Mohamed VI
Foundation for Health Sciences, was organised under the aegis of the Royal
Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF). It is part of efforts to professionalise
medical care on the pitch. This intensive course provides specific skills for
managing vital emergencies on the pitch, with simulated interventions in
critical cases: cardiac arrest, concussions, serious injuries, management of
musculoskeletal trauma, among others.
At
the end of the course, participants must demonstrate their proficiency through
a series of rigorous assessments. Validation of this certificate is a key step
towards being recognised as a FIFA match doctor at major international
competitions.
