On April 16, 2025, the Centre Hospitalier Préfectoral (CHP) in Notsè, in the Haho prefecture, officially opened its fully renovated maternity unit. The Minister of Health and Public Hygiene, Professor Tchin DARRE, presided over the ceremony on behalf of the Head of State, in the presence of various personalities.

The work, at a total cost of 120 million FCFA, was fully financed by the government through the Universal Access to Sexual and Reproductive Health Services (AUSSSR) project, supported by the Susan Thompson Buffett Foundation. This strategic project aims to strengthen access to maternal, neonatal and reproductive health care, by targeting the country's priority health facilities.

The project has enabled the rehabilitation and complete extension of the maternity unit at the CHP de Notsè, a strategic facility for the Plateaux region. The maternity unit has been equipped with essential medical equipment, including an operating table, an anesthesia table and an ultrasound scanner. According to Dr Dzifa Nyametso, Regional Director of Health for the Plateaux region, this renovation improves the working environment, quality of care and attendance at services, helping to reduce maternal and neonatal mortality in the Haho and Plateaux regions. New functional spaces, in line with quality and safety standards, have been fitted out, including a pre-delivery room, a delivery unit and an immediate postnatal care area. An obstetric emergency unit has also been created for rapid management of complications, enabling surgical interventions such as caesarean sections to be carried out on site.

Doctor Lieutenant-Colonel Professor Aklesso Bagny, National Focal Point for the AUSSSR project, underlines that this initiative marks an important step towards Universal Health Coverage and the government's commitment to transforming the Togolese healthcare system in the long term.
