The kidneys filter waste and balance water and electrolytes. They control blood pressure and produce hormones. Their role is vital to the body. When they malfunction, the signs are often discreet. But neglecting them can lead to serious complications. Detecting these problems early can prevent major complications.
Many people live with kidney
problems without knowing they're affected, because symptoms can be discreet at
first.
Fatigue and urinary changes
Weakened kidneys filter toxins
poorly. These accumulate in the bloodstream. The result is constant fatigue. A
drop in energy and difficulty concentrating appear. Changes in urine signal a kidney problem. Urine can be frothy,
indicating the presence of proteins. Urine may be very light or very dark. A frequent need to urinate, especially at
night, is also a sign. Be careful, too, if the urine foams up a lot in the pot
and stays there for a long time.
Swelling and dry skin
Kidneys in poor condition have
trouble eliminating excess sodium. This leads to water retention. Swelling and edema appear. They are visible
on the legs, ankles and face. Accumulated waste also irritates the skin.
Itching or excessive dry skin occurs.
Hypertension and digestive disorders
The kidneys regulate blood
pressure, and dysfunction leads to or aggravates hypertension. The accumulation
of toxins in the blood causes digestive disorders. Frequent nausea and vomiting are possible. Loss of appetite accompanies
these symptoms. Accumulated waste alters the taste of food. Bad breath and a
metallic taste in the mouth are also noticeable.
Shortness of breath and back pain
When the kidneys filter
poorly, fluid accumulates in the lungs. This causes shortness of breath, even
at rest. Some kidney disorders, such as stones or infections, cause pain. These can be in the lower back or under the
ribs. A constant sensation of cold or fever also indicates a problem. Anemia,
common in kidney failure, is also a cause.
Taking action for kidney health
It's important to consult a
healthcare professional in the event of these signs. A simple urine test or
blood test can check kidney function. Early detection can slow the progression
of the disease.
To preserve the kidneys, you need to drink enough water. A balanced diet
low in salt is beneficial. Excessive self-medication should be avoided. Control
blood pressure and blood sugar levels.
Regular exercise is also important. Paying attention to the body's
signals helps detect a kidney problem in good time. If in doubt, have a
check-up.
