Eating according to your blood type is a practice that's taking hold in the world of nutrition and scientific research. In Africa, the family eats according to the taste of the father and sometimes the mother. The children, for their part, are subject to the nutritional desires of their parents. We may have grasped the workings of his metabolism and caloric intake, but is it possible to understand him as a biochemical individual? There's still a lot to learn on the health and well-being front. To this end, many people believe that American naturopath Dr. Peter D'Adamo's famous concept of “blood-type dieting” is a new turning point in the way we think about a healthy lifestyle.

We mustn't let highly scientific words like “biochemical and naturopathic” convince most people that this diet is nonsensical science fiction. Dr. Peter D'Adamo, who was named US Physician of the Year, is an accomplished teacher who has used research in the fields of glycobiology and biochemistry, as well as the work of many other physicians, to support his theory.

Because of the novelty of the concept of a blood-type-adapted diet, few studies have been conducted to support D'Adamo's theory. But for every skeptic, there's an enthusiastic fan impressed by the American naturopath's work. At best, this theory should be tried to see if it's false or real.

Dr. D'Adamo and the ten years he spent writing his book, “Eat Right 4 Your Type” (four blood types, four diets, in French), was a “New York Times” bestseller, with a circulation of 7 million copies. What exactly is this new diet? What sets it apart from other fad diets?

The blood type diet theory

Dr. Peter D'Adamo's theory is that each person responds differently to certain types of food, depending on their blood type. He suggests that lectins, proteins found in food that bind to carbohydrates, cause different interactions in different blood groups. If particular lectins interact with antigens linked to the blood group, this can have negative effects on health.

The diet divides foods to be preferred and those to be avoided into 16 groups. These are the essential foods for a balanced diet: milk, lean meat, beans, vegetables, among others. Recommended quantities differ widely according to blood type. You may already know your blood type. If not, ask your doctor to order the necessary test.

Group O « the hunter »

This is the oldest blood group according to D'Adamo. It can be traced back over 30,000 years, and its members need more protein than other groups.

Group A «agrarian »

D'Adamo believes this group emerged with the development of agriculture, around 20,000 years ago. For this reason, people in group A should have a diet that is mainly plant-based.

Group B «the nomad »

This group is thought to have originated around 10,0000 years ago. It has a flexible digestive system and tolerates dairy products much better than the other groups.

Group AB «the enigma »

This is by far the most recent group, dating back some 10,000 years. As its letters suggest, the diet of people in group AB straddles the line between groups A and B.
