Excessive consumption of red meat, whether chopped or processed, increases the risk of prostate cancer when overcooked. Researchers at the University of California do not claim, of course, that red meat should be excluded from the diet. However, as they explain in the journal PloS One, they observed that a high consumption of ground or processed red meat increases the risk of developing prostate cancer, especially when it is overcooked, because this preparation method produces specific carcinogenic substances when the meat turns black. This conclusion is based on a comparison of the eating habits of thousands of men, half of whom suffer from an aggressive form of prostate cancer. The advice: eat red meat, yes, but in a very moderate quantity and cooked to perfection.
