the worst option. Why? First, because it increases friction between your face
and your pillow, promoting the appearance of premature wrinkles. Second, it
distorts the spine and twists the neck, which can ultimately cause chronic
pain.
Even more seriously, this position increases
friction around the eyes, which can promote a corneal condition called
keratoconus. People who sleep on their stomach are statistically at higher risk
of developing this disease. Sleeping on your back? Better for alignment, sure,
but it promotes snoring and can make breathing difficult for some. The best
position, therefore, remains on your right side. According to the American
Heart Association, this reduces pressure on the heart, which is located on the
left side. This position improves blood circulation, especially in people with
heart failure.
